Guo Guangchang Received Lifetime Achievement Award at the 16th CNBC Asia Business Leaders Award Ceremony

Mr. Guo Guangchang, Chairman of Fosun Group, received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 16th Asia Business Leaders Awards (ALBA) on 2 November, in recognition of his achievements in global business development and his active contribution to society, as well as efforts in promoting the advancement of global community.

John Casey, a member of the ABLA judging panel and CNBC's Senior Vice President of International News and Programming said: "Mr. Guo is a distinguished leader whose name is synonymous with success. His achievements with Fosun International have created a legacy for future business leaders to emulate. It is only fitting that Mr. Guo now joins the esteemed list of ABLA Lifetime Achievement Award recipients."

Mr. Guo said at the award ceremony: “This award not only belongs to me but also belongs to the whole Fosun team. Fosun and I are still young and our careers have just begun.  Therefore, I understand that this award is not a conclusion of Fosun’s past achievements, it represents the encouragement to and expectation for the future of Fosun and myself. We are still optimistic about China’s economic growth, when the world has become increasingly integrated, we also believe that other Chinese companies like Fosun will consolidate global resources for further development in a better way.”

Mr. Guo added, “Fosun has always emphasized ‘Going Global’ yet it’s not the ultimate goal, our aim is ‘Heading Back Home’ with a combination of Chinese momentum and globalization. In the future, Fosun will place greater emphasis on leading with technology and deepen our footholds in health, happiness and wealth sectors, so as to provide high-quality products and services for families around the world.”

In Fosun’s 25 years of development, it has grasped the growth momentum of China’s economy and achieved rapid growth. Fosun has established itself as a multinational company with its roots in China. In recent years, Fosun has accomplished evolutionary upgrades of its strategies, which focus on families’ needs of health, happiness and wealth, and provide high quality products and services to families worldwide. Such strategies are also in line with the advocate of creating better for people in the 19th National Congress meeting.

Fosun is now focusing on the demand of families as its core driver, it has been increasing investment in technology, research and development as well as innovations including artificial intelligence.  It aims to incorporate products, services, logistics and customer data in “One Fosun” digitization workflow platform, to achieve genuine end-to-end C2M (Customers to Makers) connection and to innovate Fosun’s happiness ecosystem.

When commenting on ways to sustain future business growth for Fosun, Mr. Guo said, “Fosun now puts greater emphasis on the importance of ‘Technology Innovation’ to its development. Take the healthcare industry as example, Fosun set up a R&D laboratory in Silicon Valley, the United States eight years ago. The laboratory has now become a global leader in monoclonal antibodies, small molecule pharmaceuticals and other fields, we expect that a series of new drugs will be launched in the next two years. In addition, Fosun also set up joint ventures with Intuitive Surgical and Kite Pharma respectively, to introduce a new generation of Da Vinci surgical robots and a brand-new Car-T cell immunotherapy, which will greatly improve the treatments for some specific diseases. There are many similar cases and we believe in the power of ‘Leading with Technology’. We hope that the existence of Fosun can make this world a better place and bring more happiness into the lives of families.”

Previous Lifetime Achievement winners include Chinese technology pioneer, Mr. Liu Chuanzhi, Chairman of Chia Tai Group, Mr. Dhanin Chearavanont, Japanese retailing giant, Mr. Tadashi Yanai and Indian industrialist, Mr. Ratan N Tata.
